Hardox 500

Highly wear-resistant, hardened steel for versatile applications in mechanical engineering. As an advancement of Hardox 450, it is even more resistant to abrasive wear. Hardox 500 can also be formed by bending and is easily weldable.

Round material made of Hardox 500 offers very high strength and convincing toughness. The high strength makes Hardox 500 an excellent choice for high-strength components in various mechanical engineering applications. The high hardness enables very wear-resistant applications, such as in excavator bucket liners. Moreover, precision parts in mechanical engineering benefit from its high hardness and toughness.

Diameter

Diameters range from 30 - 160mm. All diameter tolerances comply with DIN EN 10060 or SSAB specifications.

Diameter Tolerances
∅ (mm) rolled
20 ≤ 75 EN 10060
> 75 - 160 SSAB Specification
Diameter

Tolerances, rolled surface (mm)
Min Max
26.0 - 35.0 - 0.60 + 0.60
36.0 - 50.0 - 0.80 + 0.80
52.0 - 80.0 - 1.00 + 1.00
76.0 - 115.0 - 0.00 + 3.50
116.0 - 160.0 - 0.00 + 3.00

According to EN 10060 for ∅ ≤ 75mm.
SSAB Specification for ∅ ≥ 76 - 160mm.

Straightness

Tolerances according to EN 10060. The maximum permissible deviation is 2mm/m when measured using a calibrated measuring device over 1 meter.

Length

The tolerance for rolled production lengths (approximately 5,000mm) according to EN 10060 is -0mm / +200mm. Any section lengths are available as VarioRond, with a length tolerance of -0mm / +3mm for sawn pieces.

Surface

The surface corresponds to EN 10221 Class C for ∅ ≤ 75mm. For bars with ∅ > 120mm, the maximum depth of surface discontinuities is 0.0075 x ∅ [mm].

Testing

The bar hardness is measured on a milled surface, with indentations positioned for Charpy impact testing according to EN 10083.
Charpy-V-notch impact toughness testing positioning according to EN 10083.

Roundness

Tolerances for rolled and peeled bars according to EN 10060 mean that the roundness deviation must not exceed 75% of the diameter tolerance range according to EN 10060.
